Hello,
Please could you provide the number of closures each station experienced due to overcrowding in 2018 (or the most recent year for which data is available)?
A split between full and partial closures would be ideal, but if this is not possible the full closures only will be fine.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 July 2019 asking for information about station closures.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
A station closure for overcrowding would only be implemented as a last resort on safety grounds. Station staff are experienced in managing the number of passengers they see on a daily basis and monitor the passenger flow from within the station every day.
Alternative measures to assist during particularly busy times are one way systems during peak periods and partial closures (which may involve non-stopping on one or more platforms/lines within the station and/or some entrances being temporarily closed). This essentially means keeping the station open whilst managing the flow of customers to maintain a safe and reliable service. This would usually be implemented to prevent any overcrowding on platforms and escalators etc.
