Hello I have a Freedom of Information request about your new Superloop bus service. I've noticed on Twitter and Flickr, you have recently launched the Superloop branded livery bus on your express bus route 607. https://twitter.com/David16613497/status/1678386710416072704 https://www.flickr.com/photos/198450049@N07/53036838500/ I've checked the design standards page on your website, and there's no documents about your Superloop branding. https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/suppliers-and-contractors/design-standards 1. Can you publish the Superloop livery branding drawings for all makes and models of buses in a high quality PDF format please? 2. Can you publish the documents of your Superloop design standards to your website (linked above) please? 3. Can you release the figure spent by TFL on creating the new Superloop service, including costs to add livery branding to the buses? 4. Are there plans to refresh bus stops (including shelters), signage, route numbers and information with the Superloop branding, just like the East London Transit? 5. Are there plans to increase the number of bus lanes and bus priority measures for the Superloop service? 6. Is the Superloop classified as a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, as the East London Transit is already classified as BRT? 7. Will the bus interiors for the Superloop service include Superloop colour branding for handrails, walls, seat moquette, and other high-spec features? 8. Are there plans to adopt livery branding to other bus services, including route 358 which will soon be served using new electric tram-buses? Regards

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1086-2324

Thank you for your request which we received on 10 July 2023, asking for information about the Superloop bus service.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

1. Can you publish the Superloop livery branding drawings for all makes and models of buses in a high quality PDF format please?

Please find the design drawings attached for SL8 and SL6.

2. Can you publish the documents of your Superloop design standards to your website (linked above) please?

Please find the standards document attached. It will be published alongside this response on the Freedom of Information pages on the TfL website.

3. Can you release the figure spent by TFL on creating the new Superloop service, including costs to add livery branding to the buses?

We are currently consulting on proposed Superloop routes and do not have a full costing of the routes at this time. We will be able to provide full costings upon the completion of the consultation, which will reflect any changes that we might make in response to the consultation.

Our current expenditure to date on the scheme is £1.5m.

4. Are there plans to refresh bus stops (including shelters), signage, route numbers and information with the Superloop branding, just like the East London Transit?

Our customers should have already seen changes we’ve been making for our Superloop routes since 15 July, when the first route to join the Superloop network went live as the re-numbered SL8. We’ve updated customer information to include the new route number and branding, we’ve also included a distinct red tile for the bus number on our bus flags as well as adding a Superloop panel beneath the flag, and have added a large Superloop roundel atop our shelters. These updates will be applied to bus stops and information for all Superloop routes as and when they go into operation, so that customers can easily distinguish these services among other routes.

5. Are there plans to increase the number of bus lanes and bus priority measures for the Superloop service?

There are a few opportunities being investigated. However, all of the routings for new services are subject to consultation and therefore aren’t confirmed. None of the proposals rely on new bus lanes to achieve the journey times we are predicting.

6. Is the Superloop classified as a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, as the East London Transit is already classified as BRT?

No, we are not classifying Superloop as BRT.

7. Will the bus interiors for the Superloop service include Superloop colour branding for handrails, walls, seat moquette, and other high-spec features?

Superloop bus interiors will feature branded route maps and customer information. The buses will have USBs fitted and our distinct priority seat moquette.

8. Are there plans to adopt livery branding to other bus services, including route 358 which will soon be served using new electric tram-buses?

We do not have any immediate plans in place to adopt further livery branding outside of Superloop, but are exploring opportunities where this might be relevant elsewhere on the network, for the future.
