Your request has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold some of the information you requested. You asked:
1.How many Oyster cards have been issued to date?
118.8m Oyster cards have been issued to date.
2.How many Oyster cards / what proportion of Oyster cards are returned in exchange for the deposit and remaining balance?
8.5m Oyster cards with a deposit have been cancelled – this is about 7.1% of all cards.
3.What proportion of Oyster cards / how many are registered?
Approximately 20% of Oyster cards are registered.
4.Do we know what proportion of tourists to London buy Oyster cards as a means of travel? If so, what is the split between visitor oyster cards and normal oyster cards bought by tourists? How many of these tourists return their oyster cards before they leave London?
We do not hold this information as anyone can buy any type of Oyster card.
