Tfl TLRN routes

Request ID: FOI-1063-2324
Date published: 02 August 2023

You asked

Please confirm if any of the roads up to and across Wandsworth Bridge, Putney Bridge and Hammersmith Bridge have been or are now managed by TfL and/or defined as ‘Major Roads’ in terms of the DfT National Major Road Network, and if so during what period? It seems that Transport for London (TfL) Major Roads (that you manage) are Red Routes according to https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/red-routes, yet Chiswick bridge is not marked as a red route, but is managed by TfL according to https://tfl.maps.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?webmap=bc7d5efd4d1f48ef8f56239aa3230f77 (with the added layer TLRN selected), and https://content.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-base-map-master.pdf. Thank you.

Our ref: FOI-1063-2324/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 July 2023 asking for information about Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) routes.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

  1. Hammersmith Bridge itself is the responsibility of Hammersmith & Fulham Council. One end of the approach to the bridge is via A306 Hammersmith Bridge Road, which is the responsibility of Hammersmith & Fulham Council. The other side approaching the bridge is via A306 Castelnau and is the responsibility of Richmond upon Thames Council.

  1. The A205 and the A3 are deemed as major roads and are on the TLRN.  However, they don’t lead up to the bridges themselves they just pass by Wandsworth and Putney bridges – please see the attached map.

Chiswick Bridge is not a red route, but is a major road on the TLRN, and is therefore maintained by TfL.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
