FOI request detail

LU Temperature Readings

Request ID: FOI-1044-1819
Date published: 13 August 2018

You asked

Please could you release an export or back-up of all temperature readings data taken on an hour-by-hour basis for London Underground stations, including information needed to interpret the data, if such a database exists. For example, perhaps one data point may contain a temperature reading, the name of the station, the location or position of the sensor and the date and time the reading was taken. So maybe one such data point could be something like: Temperature: 22 degrees celsius Date/Time: 13th July 2018 at 22:00 Station: Euston Station Location: Northbound Victoria Line I hope this is detailed enough for you to be able to process my request.

We answered

Our Ref:          FOI-1044-1819

Thank you for your request received on 13 July 2018 asking for information about London Underground temperatures.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and TfL’s information access policy. I can confirm TfL does hold the information you require.

However, given the extent of the information you are looking for, we are applying Regulation 12(4)(b) because providing the information you have requested would impose unreasonable costs on us and require an unreasonable diversion of resources. However, please be aware that we are looking at ways in which we can regularly publish this type of data in future. Attached is average monthly temperatures for each line dating back to 2013, which we hope will assist with your request.

The use of this exception is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to consider whether the public interest in applying the exception outweighs the public interest in disclosure. We recognise that the release of information would promote accountability and transparency in public services. However, on balance we consider that the public interest currently favours the use of the exception to ensure that our resources are deployed effectively to support the operation of the London Underground service, as well as continuing to work on ways to routinely make this type of information available publicly.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
