You asked
Dear TfL
I'm a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and I have a freedom of information request about your LGBT campaign.
According to your press release linked below:
https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media/press-releases/2023/june/lgbtq-community-stories-told-on-the-tfl-network-to-mark-pride-2023
1. Would you be able to send me the drawings of your Overground, Elizabeth line, Underground, DLR, engineering trains, trams, and buses in LGBT wrap livery please? They should also be in high quality PDF format.
2. Can you send me the photographs of the buses and trains in LGBT wrap livery please? Unfortunately, they are not included in your press release, and I'm not a journalist to contact your press team.
3. Can you send me all the posters of the LGBT figures, quotes, station roundel signs etc. that are featured at various stations?
4. You say that your partners Arriva Rail London, MTR Elizabeth line, Hayley Rail, Abellio and Global funded the LGBT wrap livery; would you be able to tell me the costs for the development of these please?
5. Why is it not a contracted requirement for transport operating companies to take part in your LGBT campaign?
6. How much did TfL pay to take part in the pride march which was held on 1st July 2023?
7. How long will your LGBT wrap livery remain on your buses and trains, and LGBT posters at stations?
I'd be very grateful if you could release this information to me.
We answered
Our ref: FOI-1025-2324/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2 July 2023 asking for information about the LGBT wrap livery on trains and buses, posters and costs for TfL taking part in pride march.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
Would you be able to send me the drawings of your Overground, Elizabeth line, Underground, DLR, engineering trains, trams, and buses in LGBT wrap livery please? They should also be in high quality PDF format.
This information is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information under section 43(2). In this instance the section 43(2) exemption has been applied as disclosure would, or would be likely to prejudice our commercial interests. The Pride liveries are our unique IP. We are potentially looking at a partnership with a supplier on utilising the liveries, we must ensure the creative content of that partnership is protected.
The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. We recognise the need for openness and transparency by public authorities, but in this instance the public interest in ensuring that we are able to obtain the best value for public money outweighs the general public interest in increasing transparency of our processes.
2. Can you send me the photographs of the buses and trains in LGBT wrap livery please? Unfortunately, they are not included in your press release, and I'm not a journalist to contact your press team. Please see attached. Please note that if you wish to use these in any way they need to be credited to TfL.
Can you send me all the posters of the LGBT figures, quotes, station roundel signs etc. that are featured at various stations?
This information is exempt from disclosure as explained above. Also we would not issue any photography of our colleagues or Pride partners as a matter of safeguarding. The quotes are a partnership piece with the authors which we would not issue as we need to protect their work and involvement.
You say that your partners Arriva Rail London, MTR Elizabeth line, Hayley Rail, Abellio and Global funded the LGBT wrap livery; would you be able to tell me the costs for the development of these please?
From the perspective of design and work to develop the idea, staff hours involved around Pride activity are business as usual hours or volunteer hours. TfL does not hold information on the costs paid by our partners.
Why is it not a contracted requirement for transport operating companies to take part in your LGBT campaign?
This is not a request for recorded information. 6. How much did TfL pay to take part in the pride march which was held on 1st July 2023? TfL did not pay anything to be part of this years parade. 7. How long will your LGBT wrap livery remain on your buses and trains, and LGBT posters at stations? We want the wraps to be on display for a considerable amount of time to show our support for Pride beyond Pride month and the Pride in London event. We expect the wrap on the Overground to last for a year, the Elizabeth line train to last one and a half years, the bus to last several months and the engineering locomotive to last three months, after their installation. For posters, they are varied as they are a mix of vinyl and whiteboard posters at stations.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
