Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 July 2018 asking for information about buses.
Your request has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. You asked:
Is there any data available to inform an application for a reduced speed limit from 30 to 20 mph on a red route in Croydon. One aspect is bus efficiency and polluting output per passenger - particularly NOX, OM10 and CO.
We do not hold data on what buses on a certain route emit in operation because telematics (on-board computer systems) don’t capture such information.
We know from vehicle testing and engine emission standards that Euro VI is much cleaner than Euro V, so we are making the entire fleet Euro VI by 2020. We are around half way there and every bus converted reduces its tailpipe NOx and particulate matter by up to 95 and 80 per cent respectively. After that, we will be following the Mayor’s Transport Strategy for making the fleet zero emission.
