FOI request detail

Revenue from tickets

Request ID: FOI-1000-2425
Date published: 16 July 2024

You asked

I would be grateful if TFL could estimate how much revenue they make every year from journeys which they charge for but which cannot be made and which TFL refuse to refund.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-1000-2425

Thank you for your request which we received on 27 June 2024, asking for information about refunds.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the information you have requested. We do not keep records of the value of requested refunds that were not approved.

Whilst it’s not clear what you have done in terms of applying for a refund of your fare, if you bought a return peak ticket and paid approximately £30, we believe this was via National Rail, as TfL’s fare for that journey would be less than what you quoted, in which case the refund should be processed by National Rail.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
