Thefts of defibrillators

You asked

Following up FOI Request ID: FOI-0591-2122, 1) I would be grateful for an actual count of the total number of defibrillator thefts from TfL locations, please. 2) the number recovered 3) Also, can you supply a breakdown where these thefts from public areas (ie outside any security like ticket barriers) or inside secure areas (inside ticket barriers)? Thank you.

Our ref: FOI-0990-2122/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 August 2021 asking for information about thefts of defibrillators.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Our records show the following thefts of defibrillators from London Underground stations from 2015 to the present date:
 
  • 2015 – 4 stolen           0 recovered
  • 2016 – 4 stolen           0 recovered
  • 2017 – 0 stolen                      
  • 2018 – 2 stolen           0 recovered
  • 2019 – 3 stolen           0 recovered
  • 2020 – 5 stolen           0 recovered
  • 2021 - 2 stolen            0 recovered (to date)
 
The precise location as to where they were stolen from is not recorded, however, those machines listed above where all within the station boundary.

Additionally TfL Rail have experienced 3 defibrillator thefts. None of these have been recovered. They were located in stations behind the gateline, but in public areas.
