Greater London Postcodes mapped to travel zones

I’m looking to build an application and require the Greater London postcodes mapped to the travel zones 1 to 6. I just need the first 3 letters of the postcodes mapped. For example CR0 - Zone 5, EC1 - Zone 1 etc.... Do you have anything readily available in csv or excel format?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2 September 2020 asking for information about our Travelzones.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.  You asked for the Greater London postcodes (first three letters only) mapped to the travel zones 1 to 6.

Please see attached.  Please note the following:

  • This is not an official TfL dataset, but something extracted from 3 layers (Postcodes, Tube Stations and Travel Zones).
  • Travel Zones are not geographical zones as postcodes are. What we see on the tube map are polygons connecting tube stations.
  • The ‘postcode vs zones’ dataset was extracted by looking at intersection of the two layers. This means that one postcode area can include multiple travel Zones, especially if the postcode covers a large area.
  • The second file, simply shows Tube Stations & Postcodes areas, as per the map from Londonist.com link.

The impact of current circumstances on TfL’s resources means we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.
