Thank you for your request received by us on 4 July 2019 asking for information about advertising screens on the London Underground network.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

how many tv advertising screens have been installed on the underground (to replace traditional poster boards).

Also, please can you tell me the electrical consumption and operating hours for the devices.

Finally, please could you tell me what consideration was given to the environmental impact of using tv screens instead of posters.

Advertising assets are managed and maintained by our external advertising partner Exterion. Transport for London (TfL) does not hold an overall figure for energy consumption from these advertising screens, however, we are able to give the power consumption of the following screen types; there are approximately 350 x D6 Screens in use at any one time with a consumption of 1.6A/368W. There are also 52 x D12 Screens with a consumption of 3.1A/713W.
