Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 4th September 2020 asking for information about road traffic accidents on Castelnau, Barnes, SW13.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. 

Specifically you asked to know the:

• Number of road accidents per year for the last 5 years for Castelnau Barnes

• Number of road accidents per year involving cyclist for the last 5 years for Castelnau Barnes

• How many of these accidents were on the North bound side of Castelnau

• How many of these accidents were on the South bound side of Castelnau

• Please confirm if there has been an increase or decrease of accidents since Castelnau has been designated a 20mph zone

Your questions are addressed in turn below, so far as we hold the requested information. The data is provided for the five years up until the end of 2019 - the last full year for which data is held and has been processed. Note that TfL publishes information on road traffic accidents via the ‘London Collision Map’, published on our website here (data currently provided up until the end of 2018:

Question 1: Number of road accidents per year for the last 5 years for Castelnau Barnes

In total there were 48 collisions (and 59 casualties) from Church Road to Hammersmith boundary (inclusive). The annual breakdown (to the end of 2019) is shown below:

Question 2:  Number of road accidents per year involving cyclist for the last 5 years for Castelnau Barnes

There were 16 collisions involving pedal cycles, and 17 casualties (one collision involved two pedal cycles):

Question 3: How many of these accidents were on the North bound side of Castelnau

And;

Question 4: How many of these accidents were on the South bound side of Castelnau

The data we hold does not allow us to necessarily determine the direction of travel. Partial information may be found in the “Interpreted Listing Report” - attached.

Question 5: Please confirm if there has been an increase or decrease of accidents since Castelnau has been designated a 20mph zone

The 20mph speed limit came into effect in December 2019. As we have only got as far as processing more recent data up to February 2020, no meaningul comparsion can yet be made.
