Since 1 January 2022 provide a month by month breakdown of the number of PCNs issued for contravening the just weight restrictions and weight, height and width restrictions applying to Rotherhithe Tunnel. Also include the payments received.

Thank you for your request received by us on 23 June 2023 asking for information about penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued for Rotherhithe Tunnel restrictions.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You specifically asked:

Since 1 January 2022 provide a month by month breakdown of the number of PCNs issued for contravening the just weight restrictions and weight, height and width restrictions applying to Rotherhithe Tunnel. Also include the payments received.
 
Vehicles are not safe to travel through the Rotherhithe Tunnel if they are:
  • More than 2 metres (6.5 feet) high or
  • More than 2 metres (6.5 feet) wide or
  • Goods vehicles weighing more than 2 tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW)

All the penalties issued are for vehicles breaching the weight restriction. The height and width restrictions are enforced by physical barriers at the entrance to the tunnel.

Please see the table below for PCNs issued and payments received. The payments received will increase over time as more penalties are settled.
