We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0849-2223

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 July 2022, asking about a speed limit on Battersea Park Road.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

The current 20 MPH scheme came in force in March 2021 and is an experimental order. Please see the relevant order attached.  Before that, the speed limit would have been 30 MPH. No order would be available for 30 MPH as this is enforced by legislation. Section 82(1)(a) defines a restricted road in England and Wales as a road on which there is provided "a system of street lighting furnished by means of lamps placed not more than 200 yards apart". Section 81 makes it an offence for a person to drive a motor vehicle at a speed of more than 30 mph on a restricted road.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
