TfL Ref: FOI-0848-1920

Thank you for your email of 24 June asking about licensed private hire drivers and vehicles.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.

You asked: How many drivers and vehicles licensed as private hire and hackney carriage with your licensing authority with Sheffield city post code from January 2018 to date.

As of 5 July, 168 private hire drivers and 29 private hire vehicles were licensed with a current address containing a S postcode.  Please note that as a private hire drivers licence runs for 3 years the information we have provided will cover the period you have asked about. There are no taxi drivers or vehicles currently licensed with this postcode.

We are unable to report on a driver’s address details as recorded at the point of licensing, only the current address. Therefore any Sheffield address that has since been updated will not be included in these statistics.

We publish taxi and private hire financial information annually here: www.tfl.gov.uk/info-for/taxis-and-private-hire/licensing/licensing-information.

Information for the financial year 2018/19 will be published later this year in line with the annual publication scheme.  Therefore in accordance with the FOI Act, TfL is not obliged to supply you with the contract you have requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 22 of the Act. In this instance the exemption has been applied as the information you have requested is intended for future publication.

This exemption is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to assess whether the public interest in applying the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosure. In this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Sara Thomas
