I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from yourselves relating to the London Underground network. 1. I would like to know details of sightings of ghosts that have been reported by London Underground staff on the network. If possible could this information be provided as far back time wise as is practical. I would like if possible this information to include; Date, Time of Day, Location, Brief Description of the Sighting. Please provide the information in the form of an excel spreadsheet. 2. I would like to know details of sightings of ghosts that have been reported by external contractors working on the London Underground network. If possible could this information be provided as far back time wise as is practical. I would like if possible this information to include; Date, Time of Day, Location, Brief Description of the Sighting. Please provide the information in the form of an excel spreadsheet. 3. I would like to know details of sightings of ghosts that have been reported by members of the public travelling on the London Underground network. If possible could this information be provided as far back time wise as is practical. I would like if possible this information to include; Date, Time of Day, Location, Brief Description of the Sighting. Please provide the information in the form of an excel spreadsheet. If it is not possible to provide the information requested due to the information exceeding the cost of compliance limits identified in Section 12, please provide advice and assistance, under the Section 16 obligations of the Act, as to how I can refine my request. Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 June 2019 asking for information about ghost sighting reports on the London Underground.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. 

Unfortunately we do not hold any information on ghost sightings as you have requested.   In order to try and locate any information we hold, we carried out two searches, firstly of our customer contact centre database for the period 01 January to 26 June 2019 using the following keywords: ghost; spirit; apparition; ghoul; phantom; poltergeist; banshee. The search returned 178 results with none relating to ghost sightings but the majority being reports of relating to phantom/ghost Oyster charges. The second search we carried out was of our internal incident reporting database for station staff. This search generated results of 35 hits over the last five years on a keyword search of ‘ghost’; further analysis of these results however showed that all of the reports were related to signal “ghost spots” meaning radiation radio wave harmonics that communicate to the Central line trains and tell the train to interpret the train codes in a more restrictive manor but no actual reports of any ghost sightings.
