FOI request detail

Bob Oddy

Request ID: FOI-0832-1718
Date published: 24 July 2017

You asked

I would like to know what part Bob Oddy played in meetings in relation to Uber being licensed in London? Was he present during these meetings? Were these meetings minuted? When was he made aware of Uber's application? Why was he subsequently voted off the board along with Steve Wright leaving no representation from the Taxi/Private Hire trade? Who put the motion forward?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0832-1718

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 July 2017 asking for information about former TfL Board Members.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

  1. I would like to know what part Bob Oddy played in meetings in relation to Uber being licensed in London?

  2. Was he present during these meetings?

  3. Were these meetings minuted?

  4. When was he made aware of Uber's application?

Bob Oddy played no part in Uber’s licensing, so we do not hold any information in relation to the above questions.

  1. Why was he subsequently voted off the board along with Steve Wright leaving no representation from the Taxi/Private Hire trade?

  2. Who put the motion forward?

All appointments to the TfL Board are made by the Mayor. Appointments are made for up to four years and the Mayor may choose to reappoint Members at the end of each period. In common with good practice (and as recommended by an external review of Board effectiveness in 2012) the Mayor does not generally appoint Members for more than eight consecutive years. Both Bob Oddy and Steve Wright had served on the Board for at least eight years. Appointments to the Board are based on the skills, knowledge and experience set out in the Greater London Authority Act 1999 (as amended) and as recommended by external reviews of Board effectiveness. No Members are appointed to represent the interests of particular transport modes or trades and this position has been supported by external reviews of Board effectiveness.
