FOI request detail

Information on Journey time daily

Request ID: FOI-0830-2425
Date published: 04 July 2024

You asked

Dear TFL, I am a postgraduate researcher at Imperial College London. My project involves using Machine learning to estimate traffic volumes for emission in London. I am working under Professor (REDACTED). 1. I found a dataset 'journey_time_daily' from https://roads.data.tfl.gov.uk but it does not have explanation on the columns so I did not understand which time belong to which routes. I want to request information about journeytime in a year 2020. Ideally, I want to know the location of the route and road name. To clarify, I want a documentation to explain the file as the data is published already in that website. 2. I want to request a speedlimit data for each road in London in the form of spreadsheet(I only find the map version of this). Thank you Best regards,

Thank you for your request which we received on 11 June 2024.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm TfL holds the information you require.

1. I found a dataset 'journey_time_daily' from https://roads.data.tfl.gov.uk but it does not have explanation on the columns so I did not understand which time belong to which routes. The data in the columns in the ‘journey_time_daily’ dataset, refers to Date, Time, LCAP link ID and Travel time (seconds). In this folder https://roads.data.tfl.gov.uk there is a file called LCAP Metadata.xlsx which matches the link ID to a road name and has the grid references which accompany it.

2. I want to request a speed limit data for each road in London in the form of spreadsheet(I only find the map version of this).

The ‘London Speed limits’ data we hold is an Ordnance Survey (OS) product licensed under the public sector geospatial agreement (PGSA) and cannot be shared externally. If you obtain an OS licence, then we would be able to share the data with you.
