FOI request detail

‘Keep Clear' markings at the A205.

You asked

Please send me a copy of both reports as I do not accept the findings. I have sent documentary evidence that shows there was a ‘Keep Clear’ road marking outside the main entrance to Kew Bridge Court, see attached. If the keep clear sign was placed outside the wrong block of apartments, then this should be rectified. We cannot make use of the ‘Keep Clear’ marking outside Rivers Court due to pavement restrictions, so its useless to us, we want ours reinstated as it was before the cycle lane was installed. Was there any form of consultation with the residents of Kew Bridge Court before the cycle lane was installed as this issue would have been raised?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0818-2425

Thank you for your request received by us on 13 June 2024, asking for information about ‘Keep Clear’ markings outside of Kew Bridge Court.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

The decision to remove the old ‘Keep Clear’ markings from the concept design revisions, was to discourage motorists from attempting to turn right out of Kew Bridge Court, as that manoeuvre would take them across 2 westbound lanes (that split into four on the junction approach) in order to reach the eastbound lanes. There is also no longer a central reservation separating the flows, as the space was required for the cycle lane.

Instead, a ‘Keep Clear’ marking was added at Rivers House during the design. This decision was taken because it was felt more justified based on vehicle flows/behaviour from Rivers House vs. Kew Bridge Court, and that the provision of two ‘Keep Clear’ markings in quick succession would likely reduce their efficacy.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
