Date published: 26 July 2022

You asked

How much of our taxpayers money and fares it cost for TFL to take part in the LGBTQ pride parade which was held on 2nd July 2022?

We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-0793-2223

Thank you for your request received on 4 July 2022 asking for information about the cost of TfL’s participation in the Pride Parade.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

TfL is an organisation that positively celebrates and recognises the unique diversity of London. We have a major role in ensuring London feels open to everyone - bringing both cultural and business benefits. London's success and growth is forged on that diversity, and it being a city welcoming to all. TfL’s participation in Pride in London amplifies the Mayor’s message on diversity and sends a strong message that London is open and welcomes all, regardless of background, religion, race, gender, disability, age or sexual orientation.

TfL does not pay for entry into the Pride March. The bus branding was paid for by our advertising partner, Global at no cost to TfL. The placards used by marchers as well as the sound-system used on the march were paid for by members of staff at no cost to TfL

The t-shirts worn by staff cost £1,183 (excluding VAT), this was for 120 t-shirts. 80 of the t-shirts were used on the march on 2 July and the remainder will be used by staff at other events at which they volunteer. The six banners for the march, representing each staff network group, cost £912.00  and they will be used at multiple events by each of the staff network groups. The six TfL staff network groups are Women, Faith, Disability, RACE, Carers Parents and Guardians as well as OUTbound (TfL’s LGBT+ staff network group).

The total cost of participation in Pride was therefore £2,095.00. All staff provided their time on the day voluntarily (except the bus driver who was paid for their shift by their employer Abellio but this was at no additional cost to TfL).
