Hi there,
With reference to FOI-0530-2223/GH, could you please tell me how many TfL staff have failed unannounced testing each year for alcohol and drugs during the past ten years?
And can you please tell me how many TfL staff have been sacked as a result of failing this testing?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2 July 2022 asking for information about alcohol and drug testing.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
The safety of employees and customers is always of paramount importance, and on that basis we operate a zero-tolerance approach to alcohol and drugs misuse, as detailed in the appropriate policy documents. Nonetheless, TfL is committed wherever possible to supporting employees who have a problem with drugs or alcohol and who come forward to seek help. As with all disciplinary matters, the circumstances of each individual case will be different and considered on its merits. It should be noted that any employee who chose to resign following a positive test result but before the associated disciplinary process had completed would not necessarily be included in the ‘Staff dismissed’ data set below.
