FOI request detail

Enty and exits and interchange London Underground data

Request ID: FOI-0788-1920
Date published: 10 July 2019

You asked

Follow-up to 0211-1920 and 0410-1920 - Your colleague kindly mentioned that he would look for “interchange” figures per annum, do you know if he managed to get that? Also, please let me know if you have some documentation explaining the two different methodologies since it would be good to better understand the process to get those figures in those two cases (per annum and per day). Thank you very much for all your help! Best regards,

TfL Ref: 0788-1920

Thank you for your email received by us on 14 June 2019 asking for information about the methodologies used to calculate London Underground entry and exit station data following your previous request for information (reference: 0410-1920) and a telephone discussion with a member of our London Underground Development Data team.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. You asked for the following:

Your colleague got in touch with me this week and helped me to understand the discrepancies between one datasets and the other. He kindly mentioned on the phone he would look for “interchange” figures per annum, do you know if he managed to get that?
I can advise that the interchange data given in our previous response providing Rolling Origin & Destination Survey (RODS) station flows is the only interchange data we hold. RODS information will be superseded by our new dataset NUMBAT, which once available for external release, will provide statistics on usage and travel patterns on TfL’s various rail services, including London Underground, which will be similar in data provision for analytical purposes.

Also, please let me know if you have some documentation explaining the two different methodologies since it would be good to better understand the process to get those figures in those two cases (per annum and per day).

Unfortunately we have no additional documentation that we can provide in this regard other than the details provided over the phone and in our response of 21 May 2019.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us and I am sorry that we could not be of greater assistance on this occasion.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
