We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-0770-2425
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6th June 2024 asking for information about speed cameras in the London Borough of Barnet. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below: Question 1: Who agrees the installation of a speed camera? Answer: In London, TfL owns and maintains the extensive network of speed cameras. The decision to install a new camera sits with TfL, although these decisions are normally taken in conjunction with the police and our other key partners. Question 2: Who pays for the installation? Answer: In most cases TfL funds the installation of speed cameras. Question 3: Who receives the revenue from the cameras? Answer: All revenue from Fixed Penalty Notices and Court fines issued as a result of a speeding offence goes to HM Treasury via the courts service. Some speed awareness course income comes back to TfL to help offset the costs of operation.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
