FOI request detail

Electric car charging points in Greater London.

Request ID: FOI-0758-1819
Date published: 05 September 2018

You asked

I am seeking the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Specifically, the data I would like to request covers electric car charging points in Greater London. Below I have outlined the data fields I’m interested in. If possible, I’d like the data to be broken down by month-by-month to show: How many electric car charging points does TFL operate in each year over the past five years? How many electric car charging points that TFL operate have been reported as faulty in each year over the past five years? How many electric car charging points that TFL operate have been repaired or replaced in each year over the past five years? I would like this information as a data set (ideally Microsoft Excel). If some parts of this request are easier to answer than others, I would ask that you release the available data as soon as possible. If you need any clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16, it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

We answered

TfL Ref: 0758-1819

Thank you for your email received on 21 June 2018 asking for information about electric car charging points. I apologise for the delay in replying.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

Please see a list of sites that we have installed as part of the Rapid Charging Project which delivers higher powered charging points.  These are 99 sites with 116 charge points across them.  Please be aware that the charge points are not operated by TfL but via a concession framework; Currently we have two concessionaires ESB and BP Chargemaster. We have also delivered charge points with these concessionaires in conjunction with other landowners.

The first charge point went live in September 2017 so we only hold information from this date. I attach the fault reports broken down per month as requested.

TfL did originally operate the Source London Network of charging points, however it was sold in September 2014 to a private company (BluePointLondon , part of IER Bolloré) nd we no longer hold detailed information on these. There were 1,400 points at that time.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
