TfL Ref: FOI-0738-2324
Thank you for letter of 28th May 2024 asking various questions about Transport for London services.
Your request has been considered under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below:
Question 1: Please send me a copy of Audited Accounts for year 2022/23 and years 2023/24 for London buses, London Underground, Dial A Ride, and Elizabeth Line.
Answer: Final accounts for the year 2023/24 have not yet been produced. This will be done later in the summer. For 2022/23, our Accounts are published online here:
https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/annual-report
In accordance with section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act, we are not required to provide you with a copy of the information as it is readily available elsewhere.
Question 2: New software have been installed for Dial A Ride customers so let me know the cost of new computers and which company got the job of installing the software.
Answer: The software was installed by a company called Via. The cost of the new software is exempt from disclosure under section 43(2) of the Freedom of Information Act on the basis that to release it would prejudice TfL’s commercial interests. As a ‘qualified’ exemption, the use of section 43(2) is subject to consideration of the ‘public interest test’ to determine whether it is in the greater public interest for the exemption to apply and the information to be withheld, or for it to be released in any event. We appreciate the need for openness and transparency in the operation of our business, and the fact you have requested the information is in itself an argument in favour of release. However, as a largely publicly funded authority we have a responsibility to secure the best value for the public purse, which includes ensuring that we do not prejudice our negotiations for similar products in the future. In this case we believe that the greater public interests rests in the exemption applying, to ensure no prejudice takes place which would undermine our ability to secure the best value in any future, similar procurement.
Question 3: How many bus firms are operating on behalf of London Transport. So send me names of all bus companies and amount of money TfL pays for contracts for years 2022/23 and 2023/24.
Answer: I enclose a list of all companies operating buses in London (note that this list can also be found on our website here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/who-runs-your-bus
The total contract payments made to bus operators for the financial years requested are as follows:
2022/23           £1,980,106,992
2023/24           £2,144,511,819
Question 4: When new trains will be coming for Piccadilly Line. Did TfL get a discount from the form Siemens. Which firms will maintain the new trains and how much will they charge and how long are the contracts. Will the new trains have air conditioning
Answer:  The first of the trains arrives this year for testing and will enter passenger service from 2025. The price for the trains was agreed following negotiation. TfL will maintain the trains - there are therefore no maintenance contracts (there, is, however a support contract with Siemens).  The trains will have air-conditioned carriages.
