FOI request detail

Updated Information on Bikeway Installation Dates

Request ID: FOI-0733-2324
Date published: 04 July 2023

You asked

Dear TfL Team, I understand that none of your open datasets for the existing bikeways in Greater London include the installation dates of the facilities (month and year). I have reviewed the following datasets: https://cycling.data.tfl.gov.uk/CycleRoutes/CycleRoutes.json https://cycling.data.tfl.gov.uk/CyclingInfrastructure/data/lines/cycle_lane_track.json In a previous FOI request (reference: FOI-2926-1718), you shared a shapefile containing information on the state of Cycle Superhighways (completed, existing, and proposed), as well as the Central London Grid (started and completed status) up until February 2018. The shapefile included dates of installation for Cycle Superhighways. I would like to inquire about the availability of updated versions of this shapefile. Ideally, I would like to track all the projects completed between January 2018 and March 2020. If it is not possible to provide this shapefile, I kindly request a list of completion dates between January 2018 and March 2020, at least for the Cycle Superhighways projects. Similar information was provided in another FOI request (reference: FOI-4733-1718) for a shorter timeframe. Thank you for your attention to this matter. This information would significantly contribute to our analysis by enabling us to accurately assess the timing of cycling infrastructure. Our project is funded by the World Bank and studies the relationship between bikeway installation and traffic patterns across multiple cities in the developed and developing world. I look forward to your response.

Please see attached the latest GIS files available for the strategic cycle network as of March 2023. The data has attribution on the current delivery "status" but not the exact dates between January 2018 and March 2020.

Please also therefore find the supplementary information below  showing Cycle Superhighways that were completed between January 2018 and March 2020.
