Request ID: FOI-0731-1920
Date published: 25 June 2019
You asked
Which architect designed the TfL owned footbridge that goes over the A406 at Ollerton Road and Wilmer Way, in the London Borough of Enfield? (This bridge: https://goo.gl/maps/ts6CGCcfU5EgBzXLA )
Does the bridge have a name or title? (eg like 'Millennium Bridge') Does it have a different more official unique reference/number used to identify it? (eg like '1304E') What date was the bridge completed and how long did it take to build?
How much did it cost?
Were other bridge designs considered from other architects before this design was selected? Are those designs publicly available if so?
How old was the previous footbridge that stood there, and did it have a name?
Is the architect for the previous bridge known?
Was the previous bridge also owned by TfL?

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 5 June 2019.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked:
Which architect designed the TfL owned footbridge that goes over the A406 at Ollerton Road and Wilmer Way, in the London Borough of Enfield.
The footbridge which carries pedestrians and cyclists was designed by Hyder Consulting and opened in 2011, replacing a Pelican crossing.
Does the bridge have a name or title? (eg like 'Millennium Bridge')
The bridge is called Wilmer Way footbridge. The structure was installed as part of the wider Bounds Green Major Project and handed over to TfL in 2012.
Does it have a different more official unique reference/number used to identify it? (eg like '1304E')
The unique ID of the footbridge is 9060343 and A406/20.90/1.
What date was the bridge completed and how long did it take to build?
Construction work began in 2010 and was completed in Feb 2011.
How much did it cost?
£1.5 million.
Were other bridge designs considered from other architects before this design was selected? Are those designs publicly available if so?
The bridge design was replicated from a previously constructed TfL bridge (Perryn Road footbridge over the A40 in Acton).
How old was the previous footbridge that stood there, and did it have a name?
There was no previous footbridge at this location. A footbridge close by to the east (Bowes Road footbridge) was demolished as part of the Bounds Green Major Project under which Wilmer Way footbridge was constructed.
Is the architect for the previous bridge known?
No. Architect involvement in the design is unlikely.
Was the previous bridge also owned by TfL?
Yes.
