We answered
Our ref: FOI-0730-1920
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 June 2019, asking for information about a bus stop.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked:
- Did TfL organise a visit to establish if seating could be implemented at the bus stop. If so confirm the date/time and who visited the bus stop and also disclose their feedback/report
The site has been visited a number of times in the course of audits. It was subsequently visited by an officer last week. The officer reported back by telephone to confirm that the pavement was too narrow to install shelter seating at the bus stop and that there were no safety concerns relating to the location or the shelter which has been in situ for a long period of time. We hold no written reports.
- What are TfL’s requirements when installing a bus shelters bench
Safety is our primary concern, in addition to passenger numbers, location, footway width, type of shelter, size of shelter and number of bus routes.
- What is the exceptional measurements on a footpath pavement in relation to having the bus shelter bench installed
While we are unclear on what you mean by “exceptional measurements”, I can confirm the accepted minimum width of a footway to install a shelter is 2m currently.
- Does TfL provide concessions if the threshold of installing a bus shelter bench such as vulnerable members of the public, elderly commenters and pregnant ladies to which I have mentioned all use the bus shelter.
Unfortunately it is very difficult to collate this type of information and it’s not used on a case by case basis. But we do take into consideration the locations of hospitals and care providing facilities.
