Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 21 June 2017 asking for information about how many accidents have been caused by bags falling from the basket of a Santander Cycle into the front wheel of the cycle. I am sorry to hear about your accident.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
The basket area on our cycles is a CE certified design. As set out in our terms and conditions you must not transport anything of more than 10 kilograms or any object which overhangs the basket. The basket can securely store small items with the elastic cord but discourages storing rubbish and any liquids through its design. The basket area is also designed this way to deter people riding in the front area.
