Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 01 June 2024 asking for information about speed restriction devices on buses.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. 

I can confirm that we do not hold the information you require. You asked:

Please provide information in its original form which shows approval of any of i. the installation of any speed restrictions devices ii. The use of speed restriction devices to limit the speed of travel of any vehicle; both i. and ii. on the following bus routes:

a. SL7

b. 371

c. 65

d. R68

e. R70

f. 490.

Transport for London does not hold route-level data on which routes have buses fitted with Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA). This is because vehicles are sometimes used on different routes according to operational requirements, and because some routes are currently serviced by a mix of ISA-equipped and non-ISA-equipped vehicles.

ISA has been required on all new buses in London since 2019 as part of TfL’s Bus Safety Standard and it has also been retrofitted to some existing buses.
