Could you please supply details of the drug and alcohol cutoff limits applied to your PRE-EMPLOYMENT medical testing in accordance with your Drug & Alcohol testing policy.

We answered

Our Ref:          FOI-0713-1819

Thank you for your request received on 17 June 2018 asking for information about pre-employment drug and alcohol tests.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

Please see the attached document outlining the cut off limits for pre-employment alcohol and drug testing that takes place at TfL.

It is not standard practice to breathalyse potential employees during the recruitment process. For cause testing would still apply if there was reason to suspect an individual was under the influence of alcohol. In this instance the cut off would be 13ug/100ml. Anything above 5ug/100ml and under 13ug/100ml would be fed back to HR Recruitment for them to make a decision on employment. Employees are then subject to random / unannounced testing once employment commences.

We carry out drug testing for all operational recruitment as part of pre-employment screening.  We do not do this for non operational employees. The cut off limits for drug testing as part of pre-employment screening is included in the attached document.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please feel free to contact me.
