FOI request detail

The congestion charge and EV charging infrastructure

Request ID: FOI-0710-2122
Date published: 19 July 2021

You asked

Hello. By law, net revenue from the Congestion Charge must be spent on further improvements to transport across London. I would like to find out how much money from the congestion charge has been spent on electric vehicle charging infrastructure. I can see that the income from the Congestion charge and ULEZ is broken down here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/annual-reports-past-years, however, I would like to know the exact amount that has been put towards improving charging infrastructure (for example the installation of rapid public chargers), as opposed to other projects. I'm hoping that you have this information, as I could not see a breakdown elsewhere. Thank you.

Our ref: FOI-0710-2122/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 July 2021 asking for information about the congestion charge and EV charging infrastructure.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you require – we do not record specifically where revenue received from the Congestion Charge is spent – however, we can confirm that all revenue earned from our Road User Charging schemes is reinvested back into transport within London in line with the Mayor’s transport strategy.

We are investing £18m and working with the boroughs and other organisations to provide the rapid charging points London needs. For further information please see https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/electric-vehicles-and-rapid-charging
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
