Lift Mechanisms

Request ID: FOI-0703-1718
Date published: 29 June 2017

You asked

Please could release any documents/reports/analyses/diagrams/images relating to lift mechanisms on passenger lifts on the London Underground? If this request is too broad or too costly to release, please can I limit the request to Zone 1 only?

We answered

Our ref: FOI-0703-1718/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18 June 2017 asking for information about lift mechanisms on passenger lifts on the London Underground.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Unfortunately, to provide all of the information you have requested would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.

Under section 12 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to comply with a request if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the appropriate limit. This is calculated at £25 per hour for every hour spent on the activities described.

On 10 May 2017 we refused four of your requests under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act as they would have taken an excessive amount of time to answer. At this time we also advised you that any further requests received within a 60 working day timeframe may also be subject to consideration under Section 12.

Your latest request asks for ‘any documents/reports/analyses/diagrams/images relating to lift mechanisms on passenger lifts on the London Underground’ for an unspecified period. To answer this we would need to provide you with anything relating to all of the passenger lift mechanism on the London Underground network. Providing you with this information for just one specific station would easily exceed the cost limit.

To help bring the cost of responding to your request within the £450 limit, you may wish to consider refining it to concentrate on matters which are important to you. For example you could refine your request by concentrating on a specific station and time period, and requesting information relating to a certain topic, for example lift availability, reliability, or the construction or supplier information. If you have specific questions relating to these topics we may be more easily able to respond to these than to a request for any information held.

Please note that any further broad requests for information without any clear purpose or focus will be refused on cost grounds.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
