FOI request detail

Kingston - New Malden miniholland scheme

Request ID: FOI-0687-2021
Date published: 06 August 2020

You asked

Hi FOI team I'd be grateful for any information TfL holds (last six months) on the current and future status of the above proposed cycle route (also known as Cambridge Road/Kingston Road), and whether/if/when/to what extent it will be funded by TfL. If it makes life easier, a narrative response, rather than the underlying emails etc. would be more than sufficient.

We answered

TfL Ref 0687-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 24 July 2020 asking for information about the current and future status of the Kingston - New Malden miniholland cycle route (also known as Cambridge Road/Kingston Road).

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

I'd be grateful for any information TfL holds (last six months) on the current and future status of the above proposed cycle route (also known as Cambridge Road/Kingston Road), and whether/if/when/to what extent it will be funded by TfL. If it makes life easier, a narrative response, rather than the underlying emails etc. would be more than sufficient.

Prior to February 2020, it was decided that over the following two financial years the Cambridge Road cycle scheme would be constructed. This was to include updates to the existing preliminary design and a full detailed design before construction, which was expected to begin around November or December 2021. However, due to the COVID 19 outbreak, this scheme and many others were suspended, and put under review in the early months of the 2020/21 financial year. In the last month, as part of a staged overall effort to reallocate the limited funding that TfL has available, the Cambridge Road scheme has been allocated funding to convert the existing design to one that will provide a safe cycling route along this corridor, albeit utilising temporary measures. Currently it has funding for preliminary design only, which is scheduled to be complete by October. At this stage the decision will be made as to whether the scheme will be provided with further funding to complete over the months that follow. This is subject to sufficient funding being available.

On a more general matter, please note that the impact of current circumstances on TfL’s resources means we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,

Sara Thomas
