Enviro 40D bus

Request ID: FOI-0686-2425

You asked

The 2012 Enviro 40D's were recently replaced on some routes in East London (147, 104, 304 at Go Ahead London and on 86 at Stagecoach), and I am questioning this. How comes the NB4L/NRM is still in service but the Enviro 40D's are being replaced? They were both made in the same year, plus the Enviro 40D's are still reliable. Is it only because the NB4L/NRM's are hybrid? If so, then why? The NB4L's use their noisy diesel engine most of the time. There are loads of reasons why the Enviro 40D's are being replaced, but I want the real reason. So what is the real reason as to the Enviro 40D's being withdrawn?

Thank you for your request which we received on 29 May 2024, asking for information about the Enviro 40D vehicles.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

The reason why some Enviro 40Ds are being withdrawn is because they are no longer contracted for the relevant routes; and are either at end of life or approaching end of life. The E40D vehicles which are being withdrawn are diesel and date from 2009-11. Whereas the New Routemaster fleet are hybrids and newer, having been built between 2012-2017.  Both types are to Euro VI Standard compliant.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
