Request ID: FOI-0644-2021
Date published: 28 July 2020

You asked

I would like to request a full list of every railway stations that is outside of zones 1 to 6 but that Oyster Cards and Contactless Cards (or just Contactless Cards only in the case of some of them) are accepted at and i would like the list to show what zone they are in. I know you have a bunch of secret zones which you do not publicise (like for an example i think Horley is Zone 13 and Gatwick Airport is Zone 14 etc) so i would like to know what the Zone Number is for each and every one of these railway stations outside of zones 1 to 6 please. Thank you for any help and i look forward to your response.

We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-0644-2021

Thank you for your request received on 18 July 2020 asking for information about Oyster card and contactless card acceptance at railway stations.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

Please find attached a list of the pay as you go (PAYG) stations outside zones 1 to 6.

Please note:

• Stations that only have Contactless PAYG are not in zones; fares are set on whatever basis the Train Operating Company sees fit and caps are currently set at the cost of an equivalent Day Travelcard or zone 1-based weekly Travelcard
• Radlett and Potters Bar are in zone 11 for Oyster capping purposes but have caps based upon Travelcard rates for Contactless
• Stations that have Oyster PAYG are required to be within a zone numbered between 1 and 16. It is important to note that this is primarily for capping purposes rather than being used to determine fare values for journeys (any station in zone 11, for example would have the same cap but not necessarily the same fares)

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please feel free to contact me.

The impact of current circumstances on TfL’s resources means we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
