We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0631-2324

Thank you for your request which we received on 26 May 2023, asking for information about TfL’s devices, software and hardware systems.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and our information access policy.

With regard to the number of devices that TfL has, we have been able to locate the following;

Q1. Can you please list the number of devices deployed by your organisation for the following?
Device TypeNumber of Devices
Desktop PCs 2,811
Laptops 8,413
Mobile Phones 10,370
Printers 1,200
Multi-Functional Devices (MFDs) 969
Tablets 12,315

However, in order to ascertain if we hold the rest of the information you have requested and then try to locate it, would exceed the cost limit set out under section 12 of the FOIA. Under section 12, TfL is not required to provide information if it would cost more than £450 to determine if that information is held, and to then locate, retrieve or extract it from elsewhere. This is calculated at a rate of £25 per hour. The cost limit largely applies on account of your questions 2 and 3 and a part of question 1. It appears this information has not been collated before, is not held centrally and unfortunately there is no quick or efficient way of sourcing it. In order to do so, the information would have to be drawn from across a number of different teams and business areas, which it is not possible to achieve within the aforementioned cost limit.

In order to bring your request within the cost limit you may wish to narrow its scope and focus on the information that is of most importance to you. You might also consider limiting your request to a shorter time range, geographical area or specific departments of TfL.

Please note that we will not be taking further action until we receive your revised request.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
