We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-0604-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 20th May 2024 asking for information about London Underground services on the Central Line.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

I would like to understand the number of passengers travelling to Hainault, Newbury via Hainault, Woodford, Hainault via Woodford, Woodford and Epping at afternoon rush hour between Monday and Friday over the last three months (February-April)?

Similarly, what is the ratio of trains to these destinations over the timeframe above?”.

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

In answer to the first part of your request, I am afraid that TfL does not hold data that allows us to assign an individual passenger to a specific train or route, as our ticketing data only records entry and exit taps at gatelines and intermediate taps at routing validators. We cannot say, therefore, how many passengers travelled on the routes listed. For data showing the entry and exit at each station, if this is of any use to you, please see the following page of our website where this information is published proactively:

Microsoft Power BI – click “Understood – take me to the reports” and then select “Taps by Station”. You can then use the filters at the top of the page to select a date range, London Underground line, and specific stations.
In answer to the second part of your request, this information can be taken from the relevant Working Timetables, copies of which are attached.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
