London riverboat passenger entry exit
Request ID: FOI-0597-1920
Date published: 27 June 2019
You asked
I am interested to retrieve data for London's River boat services passenger entry and exit volumes. I am interested to do an analysis of the riverboats routes and schedules in terms of network design. Is such a data set possible to be produced? Is there an alternative that can be used to construct an Origin Destination matrix for the London riverboat terminals?
We answered
Our ref: FOI-0597-1920/GH
Thank you for clarifying your request about river services.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.
I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require, and as previously advised the information held is limited.
The attached spreadsheet shows the number of entry / exit or ‘PVal’ taps for each month this year.
Note: PVAL stands for Passenger Validator; these are card readers present at stations/stops/piers in lieu of physical gates for customers to validate their ticketing product on.
On the attached spreadsheet, Oyster taps on a PVAL are shown as either Entry or Exit. However, any Contactless taps on a PVAL are designated as “PVal”, and therefore from this data we do not know whether a Contactless tap on a PVal was an entry or an exit tap.
I am sorry that we do not hold the level of detail that you have requested, but hope the information provided is of some assistance.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
