Is it possible for you to send me the link to the system you use for your Docklands Light Railway announcements? I read on an online website called ‘What Do They Know’ and I saw you type the announcements into the system.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 5 July 2020 asking for information about announcements on the DLR.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

The AVIS (Audio Visual Information System) system is designed to provide information to passenger’s on-board DLR trains both B92 & B2007 fleet.  This is achieved by displaying text information on the route indicators and an audio message over the trains Public Address (PA) system. The system can be divided in to two distinct elements, the on-board Joyce Loebl/Televic equipment and the Thales signalling system. There are two databases contained on each vehicle, updated by plugging laptops into the complex AVIS system and updated.

We are therefore unable to provide you with a link to access the system, as such a link does not exist. We also cannot provide access to the system to members of the public as this would pose a risk to security. However, I hope you will find the explanation on how the system works of interest.

The impact of current circumstances on TfL’s resources means we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.
