Alcohol on the Transport for London (TfL) network
Request ID: FOI-0537-1819
Date published: 25 June 2018
You asked
Since 1 June, 2008 how many people have been arrested, prosecuted or fined for either drinking alcohol or being in possession of an open container of alcohol on the Transport for London (TfL) network.
As well as the total number can I have a breakdown per year of the figures in an excel spreadsheet with the following details as follows:
- The amount of money received through any fines received from anyone breaching these requirements
- A breakdown as to the amount of people prosecuted, arrested or fined for drinking alcohol and the amount of people prosecuted, arrested or fined for being in possession of an open container of alcohol
- Which part of the TfL network recorded the most prosecutions (i.e. Circle Line, Piccadilly Line, DLR, Tram, Overground Buses etc).
For clarity, the information request relates to TfL’s Conditions of Carriage – Bus and Underground services 2018 – section 2.6 - http://content.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-conditions-of-carriage.pdf

Our ref: FOI-0537-1819/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30 May 2018 asking for information about alcohol fines.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold the information you require. TfL staff deal with such incidents by engaging with the person and asking them to dispose of the alcohol and/or leave the network
Non-co-operation would likely lead to the British Transport Police / Metropolitan Police being called to deal with the person. We do not hold records of any action subsequently taken by the BTP / MPS in such an event.
You may wish to direct your request to the BTP and MPS who may be able to assist you further.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
