Our Ref:         FOI-0534-2425

Thank you for your request received on 15 May 2024 asking for information about our private health insurance scheme.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

The Private Medical Benefit scheme is a purely voluntary scheme provided by TfL and is a valued and important scheme for staff which seeks to help colleagues recover from illness or accident so that they are fit to return to work within a shorter period of time.  TfL contributes a fixed amount per staff member who opts into the scheme per year. As this is a taxable benefit, any staff member who opts into the scheme has their tax free allowance reduced by the value of TfL’s contribution. We review this offering and the level of contribution in partnership with Willis Tower Watson, our external healthcare advisors, to ensure that the scheme continues to provide value for money and that will allow us to continue to provide this benefit to our colleagues into the future.
