TfL Ref: FOI-0526-2425
Thank you for your follow up request which we received on 13 May 2024, asking about the 55 Broadway complex.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You specifically asked:
Do you have the total cost of renting the alternative accommodation for all those transferred out on a yearly basis? e.g., all those departments moved to Stratford.
As previously advised, the Broadway Complex was surplus to requirements, along with a number of other office buildings both leasehold and freehold, which were disposed of or commercially let. Our strategy was to consolidate our office colleagues in spatially efficient, modern, fit for purpose office space, driving our ‘smarter working’ (such as desk sharing). Those colleagues who remained in 55 Broadway at the time of the sale were relocated across our head office portfolio to various locations that had surplus unoccupied space, including 5 Endeavour Square (5ES) in Stratford which had a capacity for over 3,600 staff. The annual rent at 5ES, which was effectively an existing cost to the business, is £10.50m. On-going savings were generated by the closure of the Broadway complex. The agreement for lease for 5 Endeavour Square was signed 1 May 2015, eventually signing the lease and occupying from Oct 2017, post construction and fit-out.
