Hello there, I would like to use hemp derived CBD products for pain relief and anxiety. It's not classed as a cannabis product as it contains very little or none of the active ingredient THC, only CBD and it is available to buy over the counter on most high streets. It is a herbal remedy with no psychoactive effects. Could you please advise me as if I was a bus driver or tube driver as these are the positions I would like to apply for. Many thanks,

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 22^nd May 2019 asking whether London Underground and London bus drivers can use hemp oil products.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

The TfL Occupational Health guidance note on this issue reads as follows:

“Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil:

Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil have several nutritional benefits which include the fatty acids omega 3 / omega 6 and the minor fatty acids such as gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and vitamin E.

Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil should be taken with caution. A normal consumption of hemp seeds as found in a mixed nuts pack or a small amount of hemp seed oil if used for cooking or taken in capsules form as a supplement in the recommended dosage should not pose a problem in a drugs testing programme.

Employees should follow the above advice / guidance so that they do not infringe the company’s Drugs and Alcohol Policy.”
