Information about noise of tube trains between Kentish Town and Tufnell Park

You asked

F/on from: FOI-0248-1819/GH Thank you for your email. If you could please reply to these follow-up questions I'd appreciate it. Was any positive response(s) from local residents received by TfL following such November works - assuming they were carried out - in the form of emails or other written communication? If so, how many such responses were there? We do not record this information in a way which allows us to advise you specifically on the number of positive responses received, however we can advise that reports at the affected properties indicated a reduction in noise of approximately 10dB. Why has Mr. Wilson made a record of (apparent) positive responses received if this is not something that you do? Is there any evidence to back up his assertion that, following the November works, TfL received positive emails about noise reduction? As I understand it, there was no reduction in noise levels after the work carried out in November. Can you please confirm this. Did TfL's Derek Wilson have a meeting with TfL's engineers regarding the noise from the track in March or April 2018? Is there a record of what was discussed at this meeting? If so, can this be made available? Derek meets Track Engineers weekly to discuss noise issues across TfL. Minutes are not taken. That does not answer the question. Did Derek Wilson meet with TfL engineers in either March or April with regard to noise emanating from the section of track between Kentish Town and Tufnell Park? I was told by TfL customer services that this was the case, whilst also being told by Mr. Wilson that nothing more was going to be done to the track with regard to noise reduction. Why would Mr. Wilson be meeting with engineers with regard to sound on this section of track if, at the same time, he's saying they're not going to do anything about it?

We answered

Thank you for your email of 29 May 2018.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

As previous advised, there was a 11dB(A) reduction at a property on Fortess Road (a similar reduction would have occurred at other properties on Fortess Road). Please find attached copied of the reports which record this.

Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation any personal data has been removed, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.

Derek met engineers to discuss noise at this section of track. Derek was advised that best practicable means had been achieved in reducing the noise in this area and other sites with higher noise levels required intervention

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
