TfL Ref: FOI-0511-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9th June 2021 asking for information about the passenger flow at Stratford station.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Please provide documentation as to how the current passenger flow at Stratford TFL station complies with the 2010 Equality Act. There should have been a diversity impact assessment done.”

TfL does not carry out Equality Impact Assessments for passenger flow on a station by station basis. However, in terms of the current arrangements at Stratford, a detailed one-way system plan was developed for the station at the start of the pandemic to manage customer flow within the station to ensure social distancing was maintained. The focus was on protecting key workers and discouraging non-essential travel. Throughout this period there have been stewards in place to manage customer flow at the three entrance/exit points. This team have been fully briefed on how to support customers and have been instructed to allow disabled passengers (including those with hidden disabilities – i.e. those wearing the sunflower lanyard) to pass through the station as normal.

As the network gets busier the one way system at Stratford is going to be largely removed (from Monday 5th July) with a couple of exceptions: the southern exit will remain exit only between 05:30 – 08:30hrs and 16:00 – 19:00hrs, which will support the TfL Rail operational plan which operates a one way System through the Central Subway during these times. Both the Mezzanine and Northern entrances will become both entry and exit from this date.

Note that Stratford is on the list to have the Accessible Signage Standard implemented this financial year to improve the accessibility signage and wayfinding there.

Note further that more general information about accessibility on the TfL network can be found on our website here:
