FOI request detail

Salary and remuneration packages of TFL executives

Request ID: FOI-0509-2021
Date published: 08 July 2020

You asked

I am concerned that the top executives and managers of TFL are not fulfilling their duties. On my own investigations, I can see some evidence of massively inflated salaries at TFL. I am an investigative journalist looking at unfair pay ratios in the UK. I need to see who the CEO's are at TFL, who their top earners are and what kind of salary, bonus and remuneration packages they award themselves from 2016-2020, to determine where public money is being spent. I am sure this information will already be available to the public, please direct me to the right place.

We answered

TfL Ref 0509-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30 June 2020 asking for the links to information about the salary and remuneration packages of TFL executives from 2016-2020.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

The information for financial years 206/17, 2017/18, and 2018/19 is contained in our Annual Reports which we publish on our website here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/annual-reports-past-years.

Our Annual Report for 2019/20 will shortly be published here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/annual-report.

Therefore in accordance with the FOI Act, TfL is not obliged to supply you with the information you have requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 22 of the Act. In this instance the exemption has been applied as some of the information you have requested is intended for future publication.

This exemption is subject to a public interest test, which requires us to assess whether the public interest in applying the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosure. In this instance, it is considered that the public interest favours the publication of this information, in context and according to the pre-determined schedule, rather than in response to your request, to ensure the information is provided accurately and in an accessible manner.

Please note the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle the Coronavirus. It is essential for London, and in particular for all critical workers, that we continue to provide a safe transport network that enables them to make the journeys they need to.

In current circumstances, we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
