Alcohol testing
Request ID: FOI-0503-2021
Date published: 01 July 2020
You asked
Follow-up to 0342-2021:
The majority of what I wanted to know was answered. However, I wanted to know what the cut of level for EtG was in the urine testing screening. Many products contain alcohol and the chance of a false positive is therefore associated. Please can you confirm the cut off level for EtG in urine screening
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-0503-2021
Thank you for your further request of 26th June 2020 asking for information about alcohol testing for TfL staff.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked, in a follow-up to case ref FOI-0342-2021:
“The majority of what I wanted to know was answered. However, I wanted to know what the cut of level for EtG was in the urine testing screening. Many products contain alcohol and the chance of a false positive is therefore associated. Please can you confirm the cut off level for EtG in urine screening.”
At Transport for London we do not use EtG urine testing for alcohol. All of our alcohol testing is performed using a ‘Home Office’ type approved breathalyser test.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.
