Request ID: FOI-0502-2122 Date published: 29 June 2021
You asked
There was a wood pigeon nest on the south platform at Chorleywood station which I first spotted on 15th May and which I believe has been removed in the last week. Can you please confirm if the nest has been removed. If so, why was this the case.
It is an offence against The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (amended 2000) to take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9 June 2021 asking for information about bird nest removal at Chorleywood station
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.
Our records show that on 2 June there was a job raised to remove a pigeon nest located under the canopy covering platform 1, and our contractor subsequently attended:
Fault reported on station. FRC 55537200 Platform 1 below canopy to remove pigeon nest.
This is the only job relating to a birds nest which has been raised since the 15 May, however, you refer to a nest on the Southbound platform which is Platform 2, and we have been unable to identify any records relating to this. This job was for Platform 1 Northbound.
The recorded information shows the nest was reported as a vacant nest under the canopy on Platform 1, situated above the dot matrix. Our contractor attended at 0045hrs on 7 June and left at 0146.
When a nest is identified on the London Underground network, and found to be in use, the contractor would not remove it. Instead, a series of jobs would be raised to clean any pigeon guano until the nest is vacant and can be removed.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
