Please under the FOI Act 2000, can you send me information on how many TfL employees have committed suicide and what year these suicides took place.
We answered
Our ref: FOI-0483-2324/GH Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18 May 2023 asking for information about suicides at Transport for London. Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can advise that we do not hold the information you require - we do not hold information on the reason for any employees’ death in service. A line manager is only required to register details on our internal systems if a colleague has passed away in service. TfL offers its staff a number of formal and informal ways to support their well being. These include:
Employees can avail of the confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) with access to a freephone number and website.
Occupational health support is provided in house
Peer supporters such as Listening sessions being a safe space to speak freely. Peer supporters is a group of volunteers who are a form of a ‘listening ear’ amongst employees. Their task is to provide support by mainly signposting people to relevant services, raising awareness or services ad support available.
Suicide awareness training is available on ezone to all staff
Counselling for those with symptoms as a result of exposure to trauma – Psychological treatment for workplace trauma is accessible through mental health services. Referrals can be made via managers, TSG (trauma support group) member or HR. Services are provided via Vita Health Group (VHG).
